Workin' Hard for Your Money
May 21st 2007 01:52
*I know I said I wouldn't post until Monday, but I just couldn't wait that long!*
If you’re like me, (and hopefully you’re not! Ha!), you are stressing about all the money you are about to owe when you graduate, and wondering where it is all going to come from. I personally have been looking for a second job to work over the summer so I can apply all of that towards school, so that way, the loan I will have to take out, won’t be so freaking ridiculous. I’ve done the math and $7/hr for just 15 hours a week will give me a good $1000.
So far, however, my job search has turned up nothing. I did have an interview at one place, but I don’t think they actually read my application. I said I needed a job for open -3:30pm, but they wanted me to work evenings and weekends, for which I already have a job!
Anyway here are some ideas that other college students can try, if you are in the same paddle-less boat:
* Join some survey site groups
In later posts I will explore and explain all the ones that I have joined. For now I’ll tell you that www.surveyspot.com, www.globaltestmarket.com and www.your2cents.com are my favorites.
* Find a babysitting job! It may not pay as much as a regular, “Do you want fries with that?” job, but it also will be more flexible and there are no taxes taken out.
* Find a bank with a higher APY savings account. If you already have a savings account, transfer the money in there to one such as INGdirect. I will examine some others of these later also.
* Have a yard sale, or if you’re internet savvy, sell your stuff online.
I personally have gone the survey and ING direct account route. Babysitting has worked well for some of my friends, but I couldn’t justify watching other people’s kids and not my own little brothers, so I don’t do either!
Both the survey sites and an online savings account are great for anyone looking to make extra money, not just college students. In fact, some of the survey sites seem to cater to those who are married and have children, because those families use more products.
Check back tomorrow and happy money making!
