Where are the Good Coupons?
March 11th 2008 11:01
I like to use coupons. When I still lived at my parents' house I was always the one to clip the coupons that I found in the Sunday newspaper. It was fun to me. I don't know why, maybe I'm just a dork.
Anyway, last Sunday (as in a week and two days ago) I decided to buy the paper in this area so I could get some coupons to use. What a disappointment.
I think there were about five real coupons in the smartsource section (when I say real, I mean the ones that aren't for reordering checks, or little angel figurines. I mean the ones for actual food products). And none of those five coupons were things I would actually use.
Then I got to the P&G part of it. I thought I was doing well. I found coupons for cleaning supplies or personal care stuff that I thought I could keep for a while and use later. Then I noticed the expiration date on all of them. March 31, 2008. Well, that doesn't help me since I had gone grocery shopping before I got the newspaper AND I was already over budget on day one.
What a waste of $1.75.

The variances are particularly noticeable in my community, where three metro paper circulation districts overlap.
Would it be worth trying home delivery for a few weeks to see if you get a better mix?

We used to get both a local paper and an out of town bigger paper. We finally cut the subscription on the out of town paper. They were the only one though that had the PG inserts. Those PG ones only seem to ever be good til the end of the current month.
Here is a link to a site that lists what coupon sections are in what week's papers. If you click the dates at the top of the page it will show you what coupons there will be for that week. Maybe you could take a look at it before you go out to buy your paper to see if it is worth your while that week.
