There are two scholarships up for grabs from the Institute for Humane Studies.
The first one is for undergraduate students. The question you will need to answer is, "What factors lead to prosperity, progress, and human flourishing?" From the link above, they give you other topics to think about when writing your essay. The essay itself must be between 600-2500 words.
Awards:
first prize - $1000
second prize - $500
third prize - $250
2 honorable mentions - $150
The rules you need to read can be found here.
The other scholarship is for graduate students or law students. This one is called the Harper Academic Research Competition. The question is the same as the above contest but your essay will need to be 3500 words long.
The awards follow the same pattern as the undergraduate scholarship contest. The rules for this scholarship can be found here.
Both scholarships end Jan. 31st, 2008. Good luck!
