The After-Graduation Job Search
January 4th 2008 15:05
When I was looking for a job at the beginning of my final semester in college I jotted down my thought processes here. Since that worked out so well, I thought I would do it again.
I have already applied to a few places, but it was a little before or during the holidays. One job I inquired about online sent me a paper application in the mail that I sent back yesterday. The other jobs I've applied for were full-time jobs at the college from which I just graduated. However, they are still on break so I won't hear from them for another few days even if they did want to interview me.
I have a few things I'm doing and a couple other options I'm considering.
Things I'm already doing:
1) Applying to full-time jobs online for things I would really like to do. For instance, working in the library at my school, data entry at my school, and a bank job are the three main ones I applied to already.
2) Looking online at retail places around here that may be hiring - even for part-time jobs. However, I'm torn because I don't want to get hired at a part-time job and then have to quit right away if a better job comes along.
Other things I'm considering:
1) Being a substitute teacher for the local school district. I had thought of this before I went home for the holidays and then forgot when I got back. I'll be looking into it in the next few days.
2) Going to a temp agency and letting them find me work. This should be happening in the next few days as well.
I'm hoping this job search ends quickly with me in a job that I can tolerate. I don't even have to love it right now. I just need an income to pay my bills. Good thing I planned that emergency fund thing.

Good luck, your plans sound logical and positive. I'm sort of job-hunting at the moment and it's great to hear other ideas
