StraightForward Media Scholarships
August 13th 2007 12:37
This is a scholarship page you need to check out. StraightForward Media gives out quite a few scholarships each year. Most of them are for $500 and are given away every three months. Plus, you can apply all four times in the year.
All of the scholarships are done by online applications. They also require writing two short essays.
A few days ago I wasn’t sure if I was going to post about these scholarships. Most of the “recent winners” links didn’t seem to be updated. I thought maybe the scholarships were defunct. However, I decided to email them a random question to see if they would respond and that would let me know someone was actually on the other end of this scholarship. The very next day I got a reply back to my email!
Many of the scholarships are major specific, but a few are for anyone. One they didn’t list on that main page was the liberal arts scholarship. (You know, for people like me who major in English). It was from the liberal arts scholarship page that I had emailed them, so I assume this one isn’t defunct even though it’s not listed. (If you notice, the top of the main page says 22 scholarships are given by SFM, but only 15 are listed).
More on the essays:
These essays are not hard. There is no minimum or maximum word count for either of them. The two questions (for the major specific ones) are, “Why did you choose (fill in major here) over other educational opportunities? And what contribution will you make to the world as one who holds a (fill in major here) degree?” and “How will a StraightForward Media (specific scholarship name) Scholarship help you meet your educational and professional goals?”
Now that you know the questions before you get to the second part of the entry form, you can write them down in a Word document and just copy/paste them to the application! You have no excuses!
Happy money winning!
