College of Cash - finding money for college

Show Us Your Art 2 Scholarship

November 26th 2007 21:02
Once again we have a Brickfish scholarship. This one is for you artists out there. They want the art to be "pieces in the mixed media category (pastel, chalk, charcoal, paint or any other creative substance you use to make your masterpiece)" (from brickfish). They don't want photography.

This scholarship ends Dec. 4th 2007. That's soon, but if you already have a piece of work you love, you can submit it quickly. Obviously there's not much chance to get "most viral" since your work will only be up for a few days. But there's still a chance at the $1000 scholarship prize.

The rules are the regular Brickfish ones: you must be 14 years or older to enter.

Good luck!

Another scholarship opportunity for you all! However, this one is more traditional, you must write an essay. If you are 17 and under you need to write 1000 words or less. For those of you 18 to 22, you must write 1500 words or less.

Award amounts:
$1000 to the first place essay in each age group
$500 to second place
$250 to honorable mentions

If you are interested in trying this essay scholarship check out the scholarship guidelines. The overall theme is "Compassion and the child with disabilities." There are seven essay topics listed with a few questions following each to help you better understand what they are looking for.

Below the topics is the criteria for being judged. There are three areas and each area is worth a third of your score. Awareness of the problem, quality of your analysis, and style and mechanics are the three criteria.

For this scholarship you can submit it online or by mail. (Apparently if it's by mail you must send in two copies).

This essay scholarship ends April 15th, 2008. So you have plenty of time to do some research on a particular topic if you pick one that would need the extra information.

Good luck!

This is another scholarship I became aware of through fastweb.com.

The link they provided went to this page. However, the rules for either the writer or the illustrator scholarship contest can be found here. (I just scrolled down on the first page they linked to).

It looks as if the first rules that come up are for the writing one. However, there are links at the top of that second page so you can click on writers or illustrators.

This is an ongoing scholarship, each quarter there is a new winner.

The winners receive (for the writing scholarship):
First prize - $1000
Second prize - $750
Third prize - $500

Winners for the illustrating scholarship receive:
3 "co-winners" get $500 each quarter

Each year there is also an award of $5000 for illustrator of the year. Each of the "co-winners" will get one of the winning stories from the writing scholarship to illustrate. They will pick the winner from that to get the $5000 scholarship.

You can enter once each quarter. There is no entry fee and it states that each entrant retains all rights to the works they submit.

If you would like to apply to either of these you should definitely check out the submission guidelines.

Good luck!

There is a whole post dedicated to scholarship opportunities if you would like to find more.

Air Guitar Superstar Scholarship

November 18th 2007 12:28
You won't believe this. (Note the sarcasm). Brickfish has another scholarship available.

The description from the main page is this:

"Are you the best shredder on the illusive air guitar? Show us you've got chops! Send us a video or photo of you or a friend tearing up your favorite guitar riff (under 30 seconds in length) and you'll score Guitar Hero™ III: Legends of Rock with guitar and a $500 scholarship or $500 cash!"

Apparently there are scholarships for anything! haha

Of course the grand prize gets $500 and the "most viral" also can win $500. All the rules and legal jargon can be found here. As with all of their others you must be 14 years or older.

This one ends January 12, 2008.

Good luck!

Mad Money, CKSF Book Scholarship

November 13th 2007 15:38
I just received this scholarship to my email this morning. It's a little different than most of the ones I've posted so far. For this scholarship, you have to read the book Mad Money by Jim Cramer.

How this works:
-read the book Mad Money
-take 4 multiple choice quizzes (the first one starts Nov. 17th)
-the top 25% will advance to the "money round" (it doesn't seem to explain what this is)
-whoever has the top score wins $500, second place gets $400.

If you like to read then this scholarship may be for you. Go here to see the scholarship page yourself.

You must be a high school, undergrad, or grad student to participate in this scholarship. The first multiple choice quiz shows up on Nov. 17th and it will be up until Nov. 30th. The second quiz will be up Nov. 21st, the third Nov. 24th, and the fourth Nov. 28th. So you don't have to actually finish the book until Nov. 28th.

Good luck!

This scholarship is also hosted by Brickfish.com (the ones hosting Hero Worship Scholarship). From the main page:

"Support your favorite candidate or cause with a winning bumper sticker! Want to show support for affirmative action, start your own "you rock Barack" campaign, save Darfur or encourage recycling? It’s YOUR candidate or cause! Be serious, satirical or just plain silly."
