College of Cash - finding money for college

Brickfish Shooting Stars Scholarship

January 16th 2008 22:09
This scholarship by Brickfish is like many of the others they have - something fun and silly. Although, this one maybe be harder than the others.

From their site, "submit a photo of you and the star that crossed your path! Make sure YOU are in the photo along with the celebrity. Include a brief description of the image to let us all know who the famous face is and where you were lucky enough to run into them!"

It's also important to know that you can't photoshop the picture. It has to be real. Sorry.

This scholarship is worth $500 for the grand prize winner. However, you have to be in the top 75 scoring entries. So start quickly and post the link to yours many places to get people there. Or tell your friends. Whatever it is you need to do. Because it ends March 13th.

The complete rules can be found here.

Good luck!

CKSF Literature Scholarship

January 10th 2008 18:26
CKSF stands for Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation. They are having a literature scholarship. Basically, you'll read the books they pick and then take short quizzes on them. (The books can be found here). The faster you do the quiz (with the right answers) the higher score you get.

This is for high school students, college students, or parents of students to do. The award for the winner is $500.

The quiz dates are as follows:
Quiz 1 - January 12 - 26
Quiz 2 - January 16 - 26
Quiz 3 - January 23 - 26
Top 25% (cumulative scores quizzes 1-3) advance
Scholarship Award Quiz: January 28-31

For those of you who don't already have the books, they recommend the library so you don't have to spend money. Unfortunately, I don't believe any of them are in the public domain so you won't find them for free online. (I just looked).

It appears they are three different scholarships. Under each book on this page there is a link to which chapters are being covered each date.

Good luck!

Active Bank Scholarships

January 9th 2008 12:27
I have written about Bank Scholarships twice. (One, two).

I went to check on the Key Bank one because it usually starts in January. But apparently they did something new and it started last September. The good news is it lasts until August 27th, 2008. Here is the enter to win page. You may want to check out the rules before entering as well.

The Discover Scholarship is also currently open. It ends January 31st. It would be good to check out the FAQ page for this scholarship (it's a PDF). This scholarship is only open to high school junior though. So if you don't fall into that category, don't waste your time.

US Bank is holding a scholarship until February 29th, 2008. This scholarship is for high school seniors who are enrolled for September 2008 school year.

I'm including the following because I had it in the first Bank Scholarshp Sweepstakes post.USAfunds also has a scholarship open. You'll need to check to see if you are eligible. The deadline for this is February 15th, 2008.

Good luck!

Nelnet Scholarship

January 8th 2008 14:19
It's been a little while since I've posted a scholarship. So here's one.

Nelnet is giving away a million dollars! Not all at once though. But for 10 months they are giving away $25,000 each month for a grand prize. (It ends in August, so it's actually been going on for two months).

Check out the FAQ page for more information. They also have a link for official rules on the FAQ page.

To enter, there is an "enter to win" button on the FAQ page.

There is no essay for this scholarship. They also have 750 first prize scholarships of $1,000. So check it out.

Good luck!

Fastweb New Year's Scholarship

December 29th 2007 13:52
Just in case you haven't checked your email, but are signed up with fastweb, they are holding an $800 scholarship.

The whole point is, sign into your fastweb account on New Year's Day. It's a drawing from however many entries they receive, but you might as well try right? How does that commercial go? "Somebody's gotta win, might as well be you." (I hope that's not a local commercial where no one knows what I'm talking about! haha).

They tell you in the email to set a reminder email from your fastweb account. I'm not sure if that is totally necessary or if you can just login to your account on January 1st.

Good luck!

All of the other open scholarships can be found at scholarship opportunities.

"Sum Up America" Scholarship

December 18th 2007 20:12
I just got word of another Brickfish scholarship. This one is called "Sum Up America."

For this scholarship you create a mathematical equation using pictures to show what America means to you. The example they use from their main page is, "mom apple pie baseball red, white & blue = America." You also need to provide a description of your equation with the pictures

There are two scholarships up for grabs from the Institute for Humane Studies.
essay contest

The first one is for undergraduate students. The question you will need to answer is, "What factors lead to prosperity, progress, and human flourishing?" From the link above, they give you other topics to think about when writing your essay. The essay itself must be between 600-2500 words

Apparently Brickfish loves giving out scholarships. Here is another one, the Brickfish Shutter-Stopping Sports Photo and Video Challenge.

From their main page, "Do you have a picture of your buddy catching the perfect wave or seriously wiping out? A star dunking on the b-ball court or you on an 8-foot hoop? A slugger hitting it out of the park or dad taking a whiffle ball bat to the groin? If you got it, submit it!" They want your best sports photography. Do you have it
