Job Search
August 9th 2007 13:06
I thought I would add to the On-Campus Job post to give ideas for other jobs one could do if the on-campus thing doesn’t work out. My own job search is not going so well thus far, which is why I am making another list of ideas. I applied to two jobs on campus already; one position was “withdrawn” (their words) and the other said I was not hired. Today I applied to one in Traffic and Parking services, so we’ll see how this one works out.
If an on-campus job doesn’t pan out, I’m going to have to look at my other options. Those would be:
1) try to find a job at the mall or in a restaurant for 3 months. (unlikely anyone will hire me for so short a time period).
Or
2) not have a job at all. (I would still take my surveys, but those don’t create a regular income).
Or
3) go to a temping agency. This would find me some temporary work and it would be okay if I was only there for a couple months.
I don’t particularly care for either of the first two situations. I applied to many retail places at the beginning of last school year and did not hear back from a single one. My main thought on this was that I had a school address and they knew I wouldn’t be there during school breaks (like Thanksgiving and Christmas when it’s busy). The second option is a no-go because I’m going to need money to find an apartment right after graduation.
Looks like option number three is really the only option. I may try one place in the mall, but that will be it.
Are any of you having better luck with an on-campus job?
