Halloween on the Cheap
October 29th 2007 20:31
Maybe this post should have came before the weekend, when most of the parties happen. But Halloween itself is still looming, so maybe I'm not too late.
Have you ever noticed that the best halloween costumes are the ones people make up themselves? Anything you buy in a store can be bought by tons of people. The best costumes come from individuality and creativity. This means: there is no reason to spend money on halloween (unless you have to buy candy to pass out!).
The best way to do pick out a fun costume is
1) decide what you want to be
2) look in your closet to see what could match that
3) borrow items from friends if you think something would match your costume
4) maybe spend money on something small that really fits your costume, or is what would create your costume (I'll explain this better in a minute).
I'll use myself and a friend to illustrate the first three, and then two others to explain the last point. My friend and I decided we would be cowgirls. Our reasoning? We knew this would be easy; we could wear clothes we already owned, and this would be comfortable. Cowgirl hats were already owned, flannel shirts were owned, and a bandana was going to be borrowed, but we got lazy. (No boots for us, flip flops are easier to dance in). We did happen to spend money on toy guns and became a "sheriff" and an "outlaw" but that was around $6 total.
As for the last point, sometimes you need to use things like duct tape to create your costume. So buy a roll of duct tape and wear clothes you already own. One of the other girls we went with was a bumble bee (black shirt, add yellow duct tape, viola!), and another guy at the party was...
hamburglar. This is very creative. All it took was an all black outfit and some white duct tape. Plus a cape, which I'm sure was already owned from previous costumes. That one was by far my favorite costume.
What has been your favorite costume so far?

How was your night? One house in our street really got into it and decorated it with all sorts of cobwebby kind of stuff, it was great.
Unfortunately I forgot to get some sweets for the kids so I had nothing to give except a smile
