Why It Pays to be a Good Worker
August 6th 2007 13:46
I have been working for one company for four years. When I transferred to a different college, I began working summers and Christmas only. I know every person that works at this store.
This past week I worked thirty-eight hours. Saturday, as in two days ago, I worked open to close, which happens to be a ten to nine shift. Literally half the people who work are on vacation, so I am also in the middle of working eight days in a row.
On top of this, I’ve only called off three times in the four years I’ve worked there. Twice were in the middle of the same winter storm because I couldn’t even get to my car!
Why am I telling you all this? To explain that I work hard. They know I work hard. That’s why, when I got my check for the past week, I got paid for forty hours, instead of the thirty-eight I had actually worked.
This is why you work hard for a company. It does pay off. People know when you work for them, and they know when you don’t. Don’t slack off just because you think they’re not looking.
