College of Cash - finding money for college

College List (pt. 6)

July 12th 2007 13:15
In an attempt to be the most helpful site in affording college, I will be doing a continuing piece on specific colleges and universities in the United States and their scholarships/websites. (I will try hitting ones outside of the US at a later time). My brief summary of each will include a link to their financial aid page as well as other information I think may be helpful.

I plan on going in alphabetical order by state, and then in alphabetical order by the colleges in the state. I will be covering Divisions I, II, and III because every student has different needs. Each piece will cover at least one college from each Division.

Division I:

University of Arizona
University of Arizona: I went through the A-Z Index to get to the financial aid home page. On the right side of the page they have a link for scholarships. On the right of this page there are links for current, Really Long Link graduate, international, and transfer students. There each scholarship has its own link that explains the scholarship and how to apply. Federal Work Study can be found from the main financial aid page, as well as cost of attendance information.

Arizona State University
Arizona State University: *Side note: I actually took a campus tour here. The one thing I remember is the guide showing us the dorm room and saying four people shared it. That was enough for me. It was about the size of the dorm I have now, that I have alone. However, I think it was the Tempe campus, not the main one and I still really like this school.* Their financial aid main page can be found here. From that, click on “Scholarships” under “explore” to the left. Links can be found to the right for future, graduate, and transfer students. Below those are links to the different campuses that you might check out. To the right is a link for general scholarship application info. Estimated cost of attendance and student employment can be found under “explore,” where the scholarships link was.

Division II:

University of Arkansas at Monticello
University of Arkansas at Monticello: The main financial aid page can be found here. To the left are all the links. The cost of attendance one works, but the scholarships one does not. Federal Work Study info can be found under the “Types of Aid” link at the top left. The scholarships (a working link) can be found here.

Arkansas Tech University
Arkansas Tech University: Financial aid main page for prospective students is here. A link to tuition and fees can be found on that page. The main scholarship page has some interesting info on it. It says “Students who live in Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas are considered in-state for tuition purposes.” Apparently this also means you can apply for the in-state scholarships. Specific scholarships are found on the left highlighted in green. To get the information just click on the one you want. The applications are at the bottom of the green list.

Division III:

California Institute of Technology
California Institute of Technology: This is their main financial aid page and it seems all the links you would need are to the left. Cost of attendance, grants/scholarships, and work study can all be found there. A scholarship form for current students can be found here.

Advice from my own personal experience:

** Schedule a campus visit!!

** Send an email to the school and see how quickly and efficiently they respond. This will be an indicator of how they will be once you're there.

If there is a college you don’t think I will get to soon enough that you really would like to know about, leave a comment (or send an email!) with the full name of the college/university along with the location of it and I will put it in the next edition of “College Lists;” (this can include universities outside of the US!) The lists I am following can be found at: wikipedia.

If there is anything else you think I should be including, please let me know!
