College List (pt. 4)
June 20th 2007 12:36
In an attempt to be the most helpful site in affording college, I will be doing a continuing piece on specific colleges and universities in the United States and their scholarships/websites. (I will try hitting ones outside of the US at a later time). My brief summary of each will include a link to their financial aid page as well as other information I think may be helpful.
I plan on going in alphabetical order by state, and then in alphabetical order by the colleges in the state. I will be covering Divisions I, II, and III because every student has different needs. Each piece will cover at least one college from each Division.
Division I:
Samford University: Their website seems a little confusing starting from the main one, so I would start here at money. To the left are links to merit scholarships and other aid. For the merit scholarships, the application for admission into the school is the scholarship application. These must be in by December 1st in order to qualify. This page is for the grants and other types of scholarships. The grants are at the beginning, and the rest of the scholarships are listed by name, and the requirements and where they can be found are described under each. Here you can find student employment (Federal Work Study and non-FWS).
University of South Alabama: From their financial aid page, you can click on “Scholarships” to the left. This link takes you to the scholarships for new students (this includes transfer students). To the left, you can see a link for continuing students. Click on USA Bulletin under “Institutional Scholarships” for more scholarships for continuing students. Once the new page pops up, you can scroll down for more scholarships. The first few are for freshman only.
Division II:
University of West Alabama: This is the page you need to fill out for all of the scholarships available at UWA (it’s a PDF file). The scholarships are not listed on the main financial aid page. On this page they do have links for grants, loans and work study to the right.
University of Alaska Anchorage: The financial aid home page can be found here. The scholarship page has many things listed, but after about the first eight bullets the rest is not very helpful. Some of the scholarship search sites they list are ones I’ve covered before, or are ones I didn’t cover because they are not updated at all. To the left on the main financial aid home, there is also a link to “Types of Aid” that shows loans and grants.
Division III:
California Lutheran University: Their main financial aid page has links for undergrads and grad students. Clicking on the link for undergrads takes you to a page for cost of schooling. To the right are links for scholarships, grants, loans, etc.
Advice from my own personal experience:
** Schedule a campus visit!!
** Send an email to the school and see how quickly and efficiently they respond. This will be an indicator of how they will be once you're there.

If there is a college you don’t think I will get to soon enough that you really would like to know about, leave a comment with the full name of the college/university along with the location of it and I will put it in the next edition of “College Lists;” (this can include universities outside of the US!) The lists I am following can be found at: wikipedia.
If there is anything else you think I should be including, please let me know!
