College of Cash - finding money for college

Saturday Links for 3/1/08

March 1st 2008 10:42
Somehow I forgot to participate in any of the finance carnivals for the week. I'm not quite sure how that happened, but oh well. I've found plenty of good links this week anyway!

The first one is "Becoming a Marketable English Major" at Mrs. Micah. Of course I like this one because I have a degree in English! haha There is some good stuff in there if you are an English major, and if not, an internship for any major is a good idea.

Poorer than you has an ask the readers post, should she get a bike? And does anyone have good information on what type? Since this is supposed to be a college-themed blog, and she's still in college, I figured a link to her made sense.

Again with the college related thing, I will teach you to be rich tells us that Standford is now basically free. If you're looking at colleges now (or in the near future), check that out.

This next post I just liked because it's fabulously broke in the city's "closet." She's selling some stuff to make money to donate to charity and to pay off some debt. I liked the shoes, but my feet are too big! haha

And finally, what would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? That's a good question and I'm not sure of the answer yet. There are plenty of good comments answering the question at the end of that post, so be sure to check some of them out too.

Enjoy the weekend!

Notice anything different? Now you can Subscribe in a Reader there on the left! If you do that, you'll never miss anything on this blog. Because I know you would be devastated if you did.

Now for the links this week:

MonsterTrak has an article "Take Control: Financial Advice for Job Seekers" aimed at college students, or recent college graduates. It rehashes a lot of things you may already know, but also has some interesting links at the bottom.

Breaking the Shackles: How to Escape from Minimum Wage at Get Rich Slowly is quite an interesting topic. It's been going around the blogosphere a lot lately. I had to leave my own comment on this one. Too hard not to.

And one just for fun "Treating Marriage As A Business Relationship" at My Money Blog.

Have a good weekend! I know I will - all my midterms will finally be over!

A nice batch of links today almost all college related. Hope you all enjoy!

Examine your motives series: going to college - This article asks you to question your reasons for going to college. I myself was guilty of the “it’s what you do after high school” reason. Fortunately, I found my way and it wasn’t a big waste of money.

Ten things any college student can do to prepare for success in life – these are all very good suggestions, most notably getting a job related to your major (aka an internship).

How to save money and make your clothes last longer while doing laundry – “wash conservatively” is something college students know very well! I know I do.

Big party, small budget – this is probably something else college students know well, especially the “party” part. If you haven’t gotten the “budget” part down, check out this article.

What to do with an extra $2000? – What would you do with an extra two grand? I’d pay off my car or pay some tuition personally.
