Why I Only Pay $10 a Month for My Cell Phone

Cell phones are serious money-suckers, but only if you let them be. In reality, you could just be paying $10 a month for your cell phone’s service. Here’s how:
First, let’s look at the reasons I have a cell phone:
-just in case my car breaks down and I need help
-while I’m away at school to call friends and family (I can’t call long distance on my dorm room phone!)
That’s it. I only have two reasons for having a cell phone. Now let’s look at all the things I don’t have on my cell:
-text messaging. I don’t need it. If you want to talk to me, call me. If you want to message me, get on your computer and IM me.
-The internet. If I need to look something up, I can wait until I get home or back to my dorm room.
-Ipod like stuff. My radio or cd player work just fine.
-Special ring tones. Some of those are a dollar or more each! All they do is annoy other people when they ring anyway. Do us all a favor and keep it on vibrate.
-No pictures or video. I have a camera for just that purpose.
Basically, my phone calls people. That’s all I need it to do. Anything else and I’m wasting money that I could use somewhere else, like a car payment or insurance.
If you are trying to find money to get a new car or even for school books, perhaps you could cut all those things off your cell phone as well. Get on your parents’ plan (if they’ll let you) for the $10 a month deal, that most companies have now, and start saving!
*I promise you, that you can live without those things. I had text messaging for a while, when it was free, but now that it’s not, it’s gone.
Here are a few questions, how many of you have an ipod and a cell phone that works like an ipod? How many of you have a digital camera and a phone that takes pictures? Is it necessary to have both? I think if you do have both each time, maybe it's time to get rid of one?

Virgin wireless with autopay requires a minimum of $15 every three month to keep the phone active. This comes out to about 25 minutes a month -- which is more than enough for me, plus it accumulates, so if I don't use it this month I have even more credit later.
